Haiku Friday: Not Fair

I sneeze and sniffle
I can’t breathe and my head hurts
This is so not fair

The weather is hot
so why am I suffering
from a stupid cold?

Colds are for winter
Not summer – I can blame this
on my one year old.

She had the sniffles
first – guess that’s what I get for
sharing food with her

Haiku Friday: Labor Day

Farewell to Summer
With Labor Day comes the start
of the Fall season

Goodbye swimming and
sandals. Hello pretty leaves,
pumpkins and cider.

Sure, it won’t be getting cooler for weeks, but Labor Day in the US is the typical dividing line between summer and fall. Fall is my favorite season, and I can’t wait for all it has to offer: pumpkin picking, playing in the leaves, the cool, crisp air, and the bounty of the harvest.

For this weekend, we’re having friends over Saturday afternoon, then having a cookout with family on Monday. Are you doing anything exciting this weekend?

Haiku Friday: School Time!

What’s that sound I hear?
A school bus is driving by –
It’s that time again

Not a moment too
soon! It’s back to school time and
parents all rejoice!

I love fall in general, but I can’t wait until the start of the school year next week. Cordy will have her old routine back, with her awesome preschool teacher and many of her preschool friends from last year. She’ll (eventually) be happier, and I’ll be happier to have her back on a routine again, as well as getting some one-on-one time with Mira, who will be happy to get my undivided attention.

Everyone wins. I love school.

Haiku Friday: Changes

A big change today
For now, Haiku Friday will
have a single host.

Jennifer has been
the best project partner I
could ever ask for

But as we all know,
time is always a factor
and must be well spent

She needs a break, and
I would like to thank her for
all of her hard work.

I can’t tell you how sad I am that Jennifer won’t be hosting Haiku Friday with me each week. She’s been a great partner and will be missed. We all have busy schedules, and sometimes that means making the difficult decision to cut back on responsibilities. I can’t fault her on that – I know how crazy my life is at the moment. But don’t think she’s gone forever – she’ll still be participating in Haiku Friday when time permits.

Everyone please visit Jennifer and give her a big thank you. I appreciate all the work she’s put into this, and I hope she’ll be able to find time for all of her interests (and herself!) by taking this small step back.

Haiku Friday: For The Kids…Or Not

I drive down the road
The radio plays softly
to not bother kids

My fingers are cold
the A/C roars to reach the
backseat passengers

I’m uncomfortable
But it’s a small price to pay
for happy children

Suddenly I have
a revelation: I am
alone in the car

So, anyone else
torture themselves needlessly?
No? Uh…me neither.

Isn’t it amazing what we do for our kids? Cordy hates loud music, so I always keep the music low in the car for her. Mira gets warm quickly, so even though I’m freezing, I keep the air conditioning cranked up to get back to her. So when I realized I was driving without kids today, I felt like an idiot for suffering needlessly. I quickly cranked up the music, turned down the A/C, and relaxed into my seat.
