Haiku Friday: A Guest Haiku

Dishes are piling
Puzzles, trains, and more scattered
The floors are a fright

I’ve had some fresh air
It’s been like summer outside
Time to get cracking

Unmotivated
Perhaps it’s a lack of sleep?
Or of nutrition.

So I’m not cleaning
Guest posting haiku instead
Who needs a clean house?

– Special thanks to McMama for guest haiku’ing for me this week!

Haiku Friday: Hai-ku-lujah, Oh Happy Day!

Dear feral neighbors
Foreclosure is awful, but
We will not miss you

No more broken fence
or boys peeing in our yard
No more peeping toms

The cops won’t visit
We’ll enjoy our yard again
In relative peace

So goodbye to you
I’d say I wish you well but
That would be a lie

It’s been a week since we last saw the moving truck, but I’ve waited this long to share the news to make sure they are really gone. And it’s been a week with no one there! No word on what happened, but knowing that they were in foreclosure last fall, only to be given one more chance, I can infer that foreclosure has finally caught up to them. He could never keep a job, and the mortgage was high.

Words can’t describe how thrilled I am. It feels like a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Living next to such vicious, uncivilized people, feeling like we had no control over our own property, was truly stressful. We can now spend our spring fixing up the damage they caused to our property, knowing they will no longer be around to further damage our fence, scratch our car, destroy our lawn, and dump their trash all over our yard.

I have no idea how long the house will sit empty. From what I saw of the house, I know the damage inside has to be massive. (I once watched one of the young boys take their garden hose to the front door and spray water into the living room for at least two minutes.) I’m hoping for a nice older couple to be the next residents. Preferably a nice older couple who like children.

Have a great weekend, everyone! I’ll be incommunicado for the next few days!

Haiku Friday: Red Bird

A blanket of white
And then I see him: a small
Flash of brilliant red

Lovely cardinal,
Won’t you come closer? We want
To admire you

I snapped this photo earlier in the week from my living room window. This little guy has been hanging out at my backyard bird feeder all week, but he’s too shy to come out from the trees when I’m near the window. Still, he’s stunning against the snowy backdrop, isn’t he?

Haiku Friday: Gamer’s Paradise

It took long enough
but then we received the call:
Wii would like to play

For the low cost of
two hundred forty-nine bucks
you can bowl with friends

Thanks to Aaron’s brother, we are now the proud owners of a Wii. Awesome game system, and perfect for parties. I can’t wait to try out more games.

Haiku Friday: Blogger Baby Boom

2007
was only the start of a
blogging baby boom

Lots of new preggos
Is it catching? Then pass me
my birth control, please.

Apparently 2008 is the year of the baby here in the blog world. Is it a virus, spreading blog to blog? Is it contagious? With each new pregnancy announcement, I start to sweat a little, wondering if a second form of birth control should be added to the regimen. Can’t be too careful, right? I mean, my two girls are adorable, but the thought of a third one right now makes me nauseous.

So to all of you pregnant bloggers out there – I love you, I’m excited for you, and I will keep reading (and I want you to come visit me, too), but keep your maternity cooties to yourself, OK?
