sea of yellow – beautiful
yet unwanted buds
Who decided that
dandelions are nothing
more than evil weeds?
If it wasn’t for the fact that my entire neighborhood believes that dandelions should be eradicated from the planet, I’d be able to enjoy the golden blanket across my backyard. Actually, I still think they’re pretty, and while I’ve eradicated them in the front yard, I don’t want to use harsh chemicals in the areas where my kids play.
By the way – thanks for all the garlic suggestions last week! I can’t wait to try out some of your ideas!
Also, I’m walking in the March for Babies here in Columbus this weekend – if you haven’t donated to the March of Dimes yet, please consider helping me reach my goal in the walk! I’m walking not only in honor and memory of those touched by prematurity in my life, but I’m also walking in memory of Maddie. I’ll have purple balloons at the walk, keeping them with me as a reminder and then setting them free at the end.
To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:
1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.
2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your main blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, please let me know.
3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.
REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! I will delete any links without haiku!
They would have to be hard to grow! haha I actually like the sea of yellow we’ve got going on. It makes the yard more interesting!
I think I’d love it too! Everything from nature is beautiful for me…ah, wait, I also don’t like the weeds that competes with my bermuda grass!
I’m rushing out, will visit everyone in the evening!
Happy Friday…
When I was little I’d pick flowers for my Grannie, all of her dandilions.
Also, please don’t set the balloons free. I understand the sentiment, but it’s an environmental hazard. Instead give them to a child to play with, in memory of Maddie, wouldn’t bringing happiness to a child be more touching than possibly harming a bird or some other wildlife?
I know! I don’t know the difference between flowers and weeds half the time! I guess dandelions kill other plants, but some weeds just seem to take up space and look pretty!
I feel exactly the same way about dandelions!
I think dandelions are beautiful. I have always wanted a photo of my girls lying amongst the dandelions. The last time I tried it I didn’t have a digital and the photo didn’t turn out well, it was too late in the day. Last year I thought for sure I had it, then when I took the girls back they were mowing them.
I say enjoy the dandelions. the yellow color, the rubbings, the wish making. Just make sure they blow the seeds in the field behind you house.
good luck on your walk. I am walking in Sandusky on May 9th. Hugs!
I think dandelions are pretty, too. Also, if you don’t use pesticides on them, you can gather greens for your salad. Seriously, half of what’s in the “mesclun mix” at the supermarket is dandelion greens anyway.

I’ve always thought dandelions were too pretty to be considered just weeds, too.
“Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them.” ~A.A. Milne
“Roses are red,
Violets are blue;
But they don’t get around
Like the dandelions do.”
~Slim Acres
If you enjoy dandelions … let them be ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
we’ve got dandelions, too, because we don’t want to use pesticides in our yard. They are really pretty until they go to seed.
I like dandelions tool. Once when I was a kid I decided to try to pick all of them from my yard. Interesting lesson in just how many can grow!!
As far as me and mine are concerned, those faerie-flowers-to-be are the best flowers.
I love dandelions, I have since I was a child and don’t intend to stop. I hope you have a good walk. My haiku post is up.
My son loves to pick me those evil yellow buds. Hope your walk goes well! I too have a premie in my life 🙂
Love it! I love dandelions. My daughter and I like to blow the seeds into our garden. (Sh! Don’t tell the neighbors.)
I’m rather partial to them myself. ^_^
My daughter loves the dandelions. She gets so excited and say “Oh, pretty flower” every time see sees one. Then she tries to smell it. I’m pretty sure they smell like nothing.
