Haiku Friday: Garlic Quandary

Haiku Friday
Now that I’m cutting
back on sugar and fat, I
need food with flavor

My flavor of choice
is garlic – stinky, of course,
but oh so yummy!

In a moment of
delirium, I bought garlic
bulbs at the grocery

I can’t cook. So I’ll
ask you: any good garlic
recipes to share?

I’m not sure what possessed me to buy two bulbs of garlic at the store the other day, but now they’re sitting in my kitchen, waiting for a use. I’ve always loved foods heavy on garlic, especially Italian dishes. Yes, I also keep a large supply of mints with me at all times, too. I’m considerate like that.

Seeing how I required a Google search to learn how to even peel garlic, it’s no surprise that I don’t know what to do with it.

Anyone have any good recipes that feature garlic?

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your main blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, please let me know.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.

REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! I will delete any links without haiku!

Other than that – pesto is a great way to eat garlic. Email me if you need a pesto recipe.

  8. yummy garlic! I just like to throw it in the oven with a roasting chicken…you don’t even have to peel it. Just chop & toss in with a chicken & some onions. Smear olive oil & roast away. The garlic will come out soft & can be spread on the chicken, on bread, or mixed in with vegetable!

  9. i love to put garlic in stir frys or pasta sauces.

  10. roasted garlic cut garlic bulbs in galf put in foil drizzle with olive oil and papper and salt if you like and wrap in foli and roast in oven for 40 or so minutes…once finished can be spread on bread or added to pasta or mashed potatoes….

  11. Stuff those bulbs of garlic up a chicken’s ass, pat the rest of it w/ a bit of olive oil, and stick that chicken in the oven with some carrots and potatoes for a couple of hours.

  12. MMMMMMM!!! I love garlic. I don’t think I could survive without it 🙂

  13. I LOVE Garlic, but I don’t really cook.

  14. Peel, lightly cost olive oil, roast it. Then you can eat it however you want. Put in salad, soup, spread onto bread, whatever you like.

Forty cloves of garlic chicken is my favorite! And it’s really not that strongly garlic-y, it really mellows out a lot.

  16. Good luck! I love shrimp scampi. The Barefoot Contessa’s on Foodnetwork is awfully good. I also like Barefoot Contessa’s chicken Piccatta. The Scampi’s awfully easy, the Piccatta’s fairly easy, just take it one step at a time.

There’s a giveaway on my blog, http://www.4evermom.blogspot.com, for 4 tickets to the circus when it comes in May to Nationwide Arena. I don’t think I have many central Ohio readers, so you’d have an excellent shot at winning.

  17. the best way to peel garlic is to microwave it for like 5 seconds and the skins will slip off. As for cooking with it. Put it in anything and everything. Invest in a little micoplane and grate it into anything.

  18. I’ll have to find a great garlic soup recipe I have… otherwise I love it sauteed in olive oil with onions, and then anything else –spinach, mushrooms, peppers, practically any veggie you have that needs a flavorful friend.

  19. Well, I love fresh garlic, but I don’t know that the recipes I have are the type you’re looking for in the health department… I like to sautee it in olive oil and then add fresh mushrooms, oregano (whatever spices you like). You can toss it with noodles or rice, or with other fresh or sauteed vegetables. Spread it on bread or leave it as a plain dish. ENDLESS.

  20. I’ve got a recipe for Garlic Potato Soup. It requires a bit of prep work, but not much culinary skill… and since Cordy seems to like chores, you could always have her wash the potatoes!

  21. Crap. I forgot to email the recipe to you. I think I’m a little senile. Keep watching for it, I’ll get it there today!

  22. I have no clue. You could turn it into a necklace if you want to ward of vampires? (Well, unless the vampire is HOT like Edward Cullen. heehee.)

I would think you could finely chop and add to sauces. Sorry I’m of no help.

  23. I’m all out but our garlic has grown up way too big so if you get some good ideas could you post them?
