have our 15 minutes of
fame in our lifetime.
I’m now using a
few more of those minutes for
a news article.
Three pictures and one
quick quote from me about the
lessons my mom taught.
I’ve written about
the topic before – wish they had
used more of my thoughts.
I was interviewed last week on the topic of drinking around your children. I’ve said many times that I think drinking in front of your child occasionally (in a responsible way, of course) is not harmful, and probably teaches them responsibility with alcohol and takes some of the taboo away. I’m not talking getting drunk – more like having a glass of wine with dinner.
I knew I’d be in the article, since the AP sent a photographer, but I was still surprised to see it sitting in my Google Alerts this morning. While it’s cool they used three photos of my family, I wish they would have included more than one sentence from the 20 minute interview. Maybe that’s just my vanity talking – I always feel like I have a lot of good things to say. I suppose that’s why I have a blog.
To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:
1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.
2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your main blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, please let me know.
3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.
REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! I will delete any links without haiku!
ABC News! How very cool!! It’s so hard to figure out how they pick and choose what to include in articles. I think it’s awesome anyways.
That is very cool! But maybe your fifteen recharges if you don’t use it all at once? Just a thought.
Hang in there. We heart you! 🙂
Oooh, Congratulations! Even if they didn’t use more, it is still great that you are in there!
Rock it. 🙂
Wow, very awesome! Common sense is just such a good thing, alcohol topics included.
I am sure you have a TON of great things to say! Congrats on the feature!!
nice ‘ku…i goofed up on my link…if you want to fix it here is the correct one: http://yayasmom.blogspot.com/2008/11/haiku-friday-holiday-edition.html
I had to laugh when I saw the placemats….. 🙂
Can’t wait to see you tonight!!
That is too cool! Congrats!
That is awesome!!!!!
Strange how by Friday the week seems to have been quite a struggle and there is a real sense of letting it all go by the weekend! You sound as if you have had your share!
Have a happy weekend!
how AWESOME!!! and…you’re allowed to have more than 15 minutes of fame! i’ve said it, therefore, it is!!
as for drinking around your children…i agree. moderation is the key. kids learn by example so you want to be the best type of role model you can be!!
You may have only gotten one quote but it’s a god one — they used your idea to wrap up the piece, that counts extra! (I was a magazine editor in my former life… it’s a real boon when someone says something smart enough to end the piece with!) Plus, you got all the face time. Woohoo!
How cool! You and your daughter look wonderful in the photos…and while the content is most of the time beyond our control, I think it’s still awesome…
Happy Friday…
Congrats! This is ‘kewl’ indeed! I’ve got one Haiku up and another one to go ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
Hi Christina –
Just wanted to say hello and that I enjoy reading your blog. I’ve been a lurker for a while but I haven’t left a comment before.
I saw the ABC article and figured it was a good time to say hello especially since judging from your location, we actually live pretty close to each other!
I also wanted to say that I agree with you regarding alcohol. I guess I would rather that my kids see that adults can drink responsibly. I would rather model that behavior then to let it become this taboo thing that they want to experiment with on their own in their teenage years.
Julie
Congrats on the interview!
Mine’s up. Ode to a dead iPod:

Fame first. Here’s hoping fortune follows close behind.
I read the article… they used a lot of sources and didn’t use much from anyone. To me, that’s a sign that the journalist isn’t particularly good. But that’s MHO.
Maybe it’s an average of 15 minutes of fame. You could have a lot more left, you never know. 🙂
Ha! Wow! You are so cool! Ya know, it’s funny but my post today talked about 15 mins of fame, too because me and my son made the cover of the Worthington News. That is so second rate to ABC News, though! Congrats.
How great, hope this is just the beginning for you….Blessings..Dorothy from grammology

That’s really great, Christina! It was a good article no less. 🙂 Love the photos. The girls are getting so big!
I read the article, and they didn’t seem to take more than a sentence from anyone. It’s very cool that you’re in there!
