Haiku Friday: Signs Of Age

What do I see here?
A flash of white on my head
Surrounded by brown

But wait -now I see
another one! White hairs are
sprouting everywhere.

When did I become
old enough to have more white
hairs than I can pluck?

Or maybe it’s not
the years, but the wear – I can
blame my children, right?

Maybe it’s not fair to completely blame my kids for the white hairs scattered around my temples. So I’ll only give them partial blame, but then add a little blame for my wrinkles on them, too. Better than admitting I’m getting old, right?

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your main blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, please let me know.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.

REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! I will delete any links without haiku!

  1. yes, most definitely blame the children! it’s nothing to do with getting old, because that ain’t happenin’! arrrr…

  2. I can’t bear to pull mine out….I’m afraid more will grow back! My grandma used to tell me that.

  3. I’m kind of lucky… my hair is blonde, so white hairs just make me look blonder.

    I don’t even know if I HAVE any. I just can’t tell.

  4. Yep, the white hairs just sneak right up on you. It’s almost crazy.

  5. welcome to the club, hon.

  6. I feel your pain!

I had a recent complete hairstyle change (about a month ago now) where I parted my hair on the other side of my head for the first time in my life.

I found out THAT’S my graying side! It’s the side that’s going gray first… so I had no idea how many there were, but now that it’s exposed…Oy!

  7. indeed. blame the children. 😀

wow. blondes do appear to have it better in this regard. :O that’s just too bad for us asians. :O

  8. You can always blame your mom (or better yet, your dad) — greybies are genetic. 🙂

  9. Whatever you do, DO NOT admit to getting old. That would just be… oh, so wrong!
I am with you about blaming the children. Let’s do that! They’re little, they can take it. 🙂

  10. I have grays on dark brown hair, so they are really visible. I use to color it, but have grown lazy about it since the twins were born.

I give my children, my husband, and aging the credit. I’m an equal opportunity blamer. ;P

  11. Ha, I have 2 white strands near the forehead…and I see them every time I look at myself in the mirror…and I love it! LOL

    Happy Friday!

  12. Your Haiku made me chuckle. I gave up plucking and just went to dying. But then I could be your momma, so if you’re old I have to be ancient. .)

  13. I can relate. Mine started to ‘grey’ in my mid-20s … and I just learned to live with it. Of course, I did believe the more challenging students in my classes throughout the years for accelerating the process. LOL

So … I’ve got one up at Sacred Ruminations and am about to start on another for Small Reflections. We’ll see how that goes, but it will be up eventually … just because.
    Hugs and blessings,

  14. I had my students participate in this activity today. I teach them online on Fridays and decided to have them do a SHARED Writing Project…a haiku for today…it was challenging for them, but I think they did a nice job! I can’t wait to read their reflections about doing this…they did a Haiku and an Acrostic…sharing the ‘pen’!

  15. Ugh, gray hair. That’s why I get highlights 😉

My haiku this week is a little political…not hoping to offend, but rather just get stuff off my chest!

  16. I totally feel your pain. I have a streak, though. And it’s not cool looking like Rogue in XMen…

  17. Gray hairs… not so good.

But an award on site just waiting for little ‘ol you to take it – better!

    Happy Haiku Friday.

  18. I blamed the kid when it went gray and the job when it all fell out!

  19. blame it on the kids….that’s what i do 🙂 so far (knock on wood) i’m dodging the gray…but i think it’s more genetics than anythign cuz i’m a teacher….and kids give me a lot of stress! 🙂

  20. You can definitely blame your kids for gray hair! I know mine has gotten worse since I became a mom.

  21. I always tease my wife about her gray streaks and call her Rogue from the X-Men!

  22. Lotus Carroll, Photo Bliss says

Got my second submission in for today, over at Photo Bliss.

    I’m a Haiku’in fool this Friday! 😉

  23. My son inspects the top of my head periodically and informs me in no uncertain terms when I need to color my hair. My problem is I’m starting to find the greys in OTHER places now…

  24. Oh my gosh girl…! I found dozens of gray hairs on my 29th birthday and freaked right the hell out. I mean, I knew I’d be gray at 40, but not before 30! I cried. And now I color regularly because those damn things put up a good fight!

  25. I’m in my early 50’s and yesterday a friend asked me did I always have white hair lol. Mine happened quick and very young. It’s not really so bad.
