The radio plays softly
to not bother kids
My fingers are cold
the A/C roars to reach the
backseat passengers
I’m uncomfortable
But it’s a small price to pay
for happy children
Suddenly I have
a revelation: I am
alone in the car
So, anyone else
torture themselves needlessly?
No? Uh…me neither.
Isn’t it amazing what we do for our kids? Cordy hates loud music, so I always keep the music low in the car for her. Mira gets warm quickly, so even though I’m freezing, I keep the air conditioning cranked up to get back to her. So when I realized I was driving without kids today, I felt like an idiot for suffering needlessly. I quickly cranked up the music, turned down the A/C, and relaxed into my seat.
To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:
1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.
2. Sign the Mister Linky below or at Jennifer’s blog with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, contact Jennifer or myself.
3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.
REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! We will delete any links without haiku!
Hahaha, that’s funny and also makes me wish I had AC.
Habits are funny that way eh?! At least you realized it before it was too late :o)
Talk about getting used to things: After caring for my twin daughters for 17 months, my son was born. Every so often I would panic, wondering where the “other baby” was, since I had become so accustomed to caring for two. 😛
So, that just means I understand what you’re talking about, Christina. 🙂
Uh, yeah… I would never do that! I have a book on tape that I’ve had out for so long, they’ve put a hold on my account at the library until I either return it or pay for it because I haven’t listen to the whole thing yet… because when kids are in the car, do I get to listen to it?! I think I need a road trip.
The habits of a good momma are hard to break. 😉

Too funny 🙂 The first thing I do when I’m out without her is roll down all the windows and turn up the tunes 😉
I always do that with the kids’ music in the car!
The things we do for love (and accommodation) are many and varied. I’m glad you realized in time to make adjustments for yourself ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
That’s funny. My kids like the same kind of music I do; I usually end up having to turn it down when I’m alone because when they’re there all I hear is “Can you turn it up, WE CAN’T HEAR IT” Of course, if they’d just stop talking/yelling/fighting etc., they’d hear it just fine without making me go deaf.
Hehehe, nice. After I quit smoking I still drove with the window down all the time. Then I thought “hey dummy, you only did that to ash, try the AC for once.” But I didn’t like it and went back to rolling the window down.
Great Ku. I am rarely without my girls, so I am unsure how it feels! LOL!
I know! I drove somewhere last night without the kids and it was surreal. At one point I had to turn down the music because I realized it was so ridiculously loud and had there been a sirened vehicle behind me I would not have known. It was nice.
Ha! I love it.
Um, am I the only one that find herself watching cartoons, only to realize there are no kids watching with me. Sad, very very sad.
I do that all the time. Especially with the radio.
I have done the same thing.
Or else I will suddenly panic thinking I have left the kids somewhere, when in fact they are safe at home with their daddy.
Yes, I do that kind of stuff all the time! I hardly know who I am any more without my son around! My haiku even kinda fits the theme, and I wrote it earlier today — I’m sure one of the reasons I’m conditioned to order a “whole meal” at the fast-food places is becuase I’m always ordering all the parts of the kids’ meal for him.
*LOL* Ah, the things we do for our children…even when they aren’t around!
