My clinicals start today
Nursing can be fun
I’ll be waking up at 5am today to get into scrubs and drive downtown for my second quarter of clinicals. This time we’re focusing on mothers and infants, so we’ll be spending seven hours each week on the labor & delivery and postpartum floors of the hospital.
Some students seem disinterested by this, but I’m thrilled. This is why I decided to switch careers and become a nurse – I want to work in OB, helping new moms through this difficult and amazing transition. It’s going to be hard, since this is the first time we’ll be actively taking care of patients (last quarter we did only a few basic care duties in a nursing home), so I hope I’ll do well.
PS – Be sure to check out Mommy’s Must Haves today, too, where I’m reviewing The Wheels on the Bus: Mango’s Big Dog Parade DVD for the Parent Bloggers Network. Roger Daltrey (remember him from The Who?) is one of the character voices, and that’s not even the best part. Bonus feature (from me, not the DVD): another new photograph of Mira!
To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:
1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.
2. Sign the Mister Linky below or at Jennifer’s blog with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). If you need help with this, contact Jennifer or myself.
3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.
Wow — so good for you to follow your heart. I envy you being with all those babies!
Okay, Okay, I’ll post BEFORE going to bed. 😛
Good OB nurses are a jewel. Good for you for doing what you want!!
good for you. that’s awesome!
I wanted to be a nurse. After I got out of high school and started college other things got in the way and I forgot that dream. I have regretted many times that I did not go for the nursing degree. Good luck to you!
Two of my four sisters are nurses and they say it’s the most rewarding thing they do. Good Luck!
It is SO rewarding. Good luck!!
I’m going to start fulfilling my prerequisites for nursing school this summer. I have a BA in English, so there is quite a bit of science work I have to get under my belt. If I ever have any questions, do you mind if I pick your brain?
That’s so exciting! And also a bit scary – those are some hormonal womens! ;-D
Good luck to you!
Looks like you’ll be BUSY!!! Take care and enjoy those babies.
Hugs and blessings,
I think it’s awesome that you’re entering a field that will warm your heart everyday. My sister is an ob/gyn intern and I love the stories of the babies. Good luck!
My friend was an OB nurse for awhile and loved it! Good luck! 🙂
Fabulous, as always!
Good luck and congratulations on another semester! I have a friend who’s in nursing school doing the same thing as you. I bow down to y’all! Good luck and bless ya honey!
good luck, I hope you enjoy your time in the labour ward… some of the nicer midwives I met while in with my kids were the newest or ones who were still students 🙂
I hope you’ll share your stories here, I want to live vicariously through you. I know you’ll do great!
Woohoo, good luck. Nursing is a great profession.
My Haiku this week is about mother love. Thanks for giving me a creative outlet. Again!
Oh, that sounds like fun! I can’t wait to hear about it!
Thanks for Haiku Friday. I love the weekly chance to go to a different space in my brain.
How exciting about working with mom’s and babies. Enjoy!
So awesome that you have gone back to nursing school. I am planning to start in the fall with my pre-reqs and start nursing school as soon as I can. Best of luck with your next round of clinicals!!
My haiku this week is all about the four day weekend my kids and I have.
Happy Friday!
I accidentally signed the Mr. Linky twice. Sorry! 🙂
I hope you enjoy clinicals. It sounds amazing to me as well.
Hope all goes well for you with the clinicals. Sounds like you’re preparing for a worthwhile and interesting field. 🙂
Awesome – that kind of passion is exactly what the profession calls for.
I decided to write a multiple-Haiku on how to write a Haiku, so I’d remember.
My childbirth experience nearly inspired me to become a labor and delivery nurse. My nurse was so much more helpful, positive, and wonderful than my doctor (nothing wrong with my doc, of course…) and I really felt like she shaped my experience significantly.
Wonder if I’ll be seeing you?? I am an OB (post-partum) nurse in this fine town!
