Haiku Friday: Toys and Villains

Haiku Friday
Lead paint, toxic drugs
No toy is safe anymore
Wood blocks for Christmas?

First there was small magnets posing a danger, then lead paint, and now poisonous chemicals that can lead to a coma or death. Seems like every toy is a little death bomb waiting to pounce on our kids. I may be sticking to organic fabric and wood when shopping for gifts for the girls.

Ninth of November
Halloween is over now?
Tell that to my kid.

I’m not sure which is worse – listening to Cordy beg to watch Mickey’s House of Villains for the 78 gazillionth time, or having to sit through it again. Cordy will not accept that Halloween is over, and I’m slowly going insane from it. I think even at Christmas she’ll be walking up to Santa, saying “Look, mommy, a red monster! Happy Halloween!”

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). We will delete your link if it doesn’t go to a haiku. If you need help with this, contact Jennifer or myself.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.

So flex those mental muscles and join Jennifer and I for Haiku Fridays!

  1. i hate all these recalls. as if Christmas shopping for kids wasn’t stressful enough…what’s left??? 🙁

  2. WorksForMom says

    I know…another day, another recall. It’s awful.

  3. Sarcastic Mom (aka Lotus) says

    Yeah, the recalls definitely suck.

We’re just going to lock Braden in the closet until Christmas, and then letting him out will be his gift.

    What?

  4. I’m boycotting China made toys from now on. That still doesn’t wreck me with worry over what’s already in our house. It really sucks and I hope that toy companies WISE UP and stop looking for cheap labor. :/

  5. A new recall on what? I’m so behind the times…

  6. I am so with you on the wooded blocks…unpainted of course.

  7. Can you maybe find her a really great Christmas movie and trade her??

    The recalls are getting scary!

  8. Thank goodness my kids have only ever been given cardboard boxes to play with. Wait. Wasn’t there something in the news about those?

    Nice ku.

  9. From what I understand, even wooden toys aren’t immune from the dangers of lead paint. Poison, poison, all around. Merry Christmas!

  10. Head Gaggler says

I am with you. My kids are getting video games and DVDs for Hanukkah (who would have thought those were better for the kids!)

  11. Jennifer aka Binky Bitch says

I’m on a lead paint free Thomas toys search!

  12. As a kindergarten teacher, I’ve gone through my toys and thrown out a LOT of things I wasn’t sure about.

The five year olds don’t put toys in their mouths but they do handle the toys and put their hands in their mouths.

I’m restocking a little at a time with handmade wooden toys and the like. It’s going to be expensive to replace the toys but worth it!

  13. I’m just gonna boycott toys entirely. Heh.
